Meet Larry
I have been fly fishing for many years and I also have had an interest in wood working, and all that merged one day when I spent some time with Daryll Whitehead and Chet Croco. For the next several months I spent as much time in the shop with both Daryll and Chet learning the craft. Since then I have been able to learn from many skilled craftsman along the way that has allowed me to develop my own style and philosophy.
Bamboo rods have power, grace and elegance. I try to incorporate all three of those elements in the rods that I make. The rod tapers are based not only on classic makers such as Leonard, Everett Garrison and Paul Young, but also on modern makers such as Daryll Whitehead and Tom Whittle.
I make 6 strip (Hexagon) rods that are mainly progressive, more medium fast action
rods, but make rods that cover the entire range from slow to fast action. I use
only the highest quality “A” Grade Tonkin Cane (Arundinaria amabilis) and the finest
components. Most of the rods that I make are 2 or 3 piece rods with 2 tips and in
the 3-6 weight line range. Please take some time to look through the web site to
see all the other choices available. I look forward to the opportunity to make
your next bamboo rod!
I believe you will be proud to own and fish a Donahe Rod!
